“Treasures of the Ancient Caverns” is a puzzle game with an amazing interface and sound effects. It recreates a quest journal for ancient relics and artifacts, guided by a mysterious map founded at the library of the Museum of History, amongst other ancient books.
The objective of “Treasures of the Ancient Caverns” is to create matches of three-in-a-row (or more) tiles on the board provided, by swapping the tiles with your mouse. Each tile has a relic or an artifact on it. When you create the match, those tiles disappear from the board and are filled up with new relics and artifacts. Sometimes, the new tiles will create new matches triggering a chain reaction, which is great since you get more points and progress faster in the game. If you create matches over the stone tiles, you pass the level.
You have to complete the board before the time is over, otherwise you lose. There’s also an untimed mode to play, though.
When you first enter the game, you’ll be asked for a player name and then you’ll see the welcome screen with the following options on it:
- Change Player: after you create one or more players, they’ll be saved. When you enter into this submenu, you’ll be asked for a name as a new player. It’s possible to have a list of different players and record their performance. This way, you can play home tournaments with family and friends.
- Play Adventure Mode: this option leads you to the first level of the game and you’ll be seeing a brief introduction and instructions to the game.
- Play Untimed Mode: is the same option than before, only in this mode the game doesn’t keep track of time.
- Options: this is the menu from which you can set some game options like, color depth, sound volume, music volume, brightness, and full screen.
- Hall of fame: to see the highest records.
- Quit: no further explanation required.
When you’re playing the game, you can always click on the Menu button to access to a pop-up menu with these options:
- Resume: you go back to the game.
- Options: to open the options menu commented before.
- Restart: to start all over again in the current level.
- Quit: to exit the game.
